don't go chasing waterfalls ( eve | maya )
[ All things considered, the hike is a pleasant one. Eve welcomes the gorgeous view, the way her sweat is chilled by the cool mountain air as she makes footprints with her boots in the mud. If you asked her if she regretted taking Wright's place by his companion's side that day, she'd probably say no.
...But there are still many things, perhaps, that she doesn't understand about all this. ]

[Smirks Maya, handing over her towel without complaint, whether it's because she can admit she's a bit clumsy here or... because she doesn't want to carry her towel herself.]
These are the only shoes I ever wear! It's just a normal average trip. It happens!

They're in front of the waterfall now, and she has to raise her voice to overcome the noise. ]
Well, here we are.
[ She admires the sight for a moment before hanging the towel off the branch of a nearby tree. After making sure it's dry, of course. ]

Hope you don't get cold too easy, cos we're probably gonna be there a while.
[Then again, Britain's a little colder than Los Angeles. Where she totally lives, and not in Japan.]
Um, I guess we can leave our stuff around here, just so it doesn't get wet or anything... and then you can come with me!
[She even begins to remove the jacket from her uniform, and stops to advise--]
You only need to be covered a little, but, you are new to this, so...
[Instead of commanding Eve to undress to her skivvies, Maya gestures with her hand in a 'do what you want!' sort of wave, up and down, before she removes her obi to wear nothing but the pale-pink-white juban. It's convenient for this kind of training, at least. She also doesn't wait for Eve to start her way up the slicker rocks, climbing with bare feet, in the direction of the fall. Surely Eve will catch up..]

Eve blinks, watching Maya undress, but rather than turn around to give her the privacy, she just...makes a face, bewildered. Eve tilts her head. ]

Too late, though... Maya's already on her way in, and she really feels a distinct lack of choice in the matter. What else is she going to do otherwise, sit and stare until she's done? ]

god i have that, i need to actually play it again... the tutorial cases always get me tho
[Yells Maya Fey, routine wet-clothes wearer apparently, as she hops up more rocks. She's a little bit more careful ascending as the runoff from the waterfall makes the rocks more slippery-- but there's a clear, solid ledge beneath the waterfall she's headed for, one that seems stable and safe and not too far from the rocky ground and waterbed below.
Once she's there she waits behind the veil of the waterfall for Eve to catch up, watching the runoff that hits the ledge bounce onto her toes and legs. The sound of their voices echoes between the rock walls and the adjacent, hammering waterfall with a cave-like bounce, and Maya's giggling about the whole thing might even seem haunting as it glimmers off the walls like the sunlight passing through the waterfall. When Eve is close enough, Maya holds out her hand to take Eve's, her free hand touching the falling water in front of them as if to test it.]

It's hard to hear Maya, but it really does feel like a warning. It's enough to give Eve pause, but her pride only allows her to remove so much. She joins her not long after, settling in next to her as she takes her offered hand for support.
She winces, because she can already tell that the water is cold. ]

[ SERIOUS QUESTION. ]

[Maya's grin is quite similar to that of a certain other Eve, mischievous and playful. She catches hold of Eve's hand securely, though, and attempts to pull her closer to where the cascading water meets the ledge. There's enough space under the water to stand as well, but all the same Maya looks over her shoulder in what probably looks like the most caution she's ever taken in her life, though the grin probably doesn't instill much confidence in that, either.]
Come on, put your hand in it. I just want you to feel how heavy it is.
Maya's outstretched hand even wobbles up and down slightly as drops fall against her palm.]

[ On this, Eve can agree. She is wincing again. ]

I'M BACK woof rough month
[Maya says, as if to be reassuring, the smile on her face gentle despite the still-teasing hint in her voice. Taking both of Eve's hands, Maya steps backward so that the water begins to hit her shoulders-- and recoils a bit from the temperature, laughing to herself before stepping back fully into the water, letting it cascade down her face and arms. A few drops trail to their already wet hands, but for now (probably to Eve's relief) Maya makes no effort to pull Eve in against her will.]

She resists the urge to let out some really whiny and high-pitched, undignified noises as the waterfall overtakes them. How can she think about anything else but how cold and wet it is, let alone laugh about it or concentrate long enough to pray?
Eve tries her best. For a while, she almost adjusts to it, but then she hears a rumble of thunder, quiet in the distance.
She opens her eyes, her sense of time numb to how long it’s been. Did she just imagine that? ]

...That, however, makes her all that much better at doing the whole zoning out bit. And while she's so focused on concentrating for the amount of time she's allotted for the both of them, Maya doesn't seem to realise the way the weather is changing around them. Whether Eve believes in what she's doing or not, one thing is apparent; Maya doesn't flinch for the rumble of thunder. She hasn't heard it, nor has she heard Eve stirring beside her.]

After a while? Yeah, the thunder starts getting more noticeable.
When Eve opens her eyes next, the clouds are markedly gray, though she hasn't noticed any drops on the ground yet. ]
Maya?
[ Her voice is even, because she's not scared of rain. But enough is enough, surely. ]
